What do you need to know before and after Cosmetic Surgery?

Remember several surgeries that is done under for medical reasons do not fall under the term, “cosmetic surgery.”

There are several procedures but few of such procedures are:

Pre-op care:

Before any cosmetic surgery, you are to have an appointment before the surgery. In this appointment, you will have the opportunity to ask as many question about the surgery, the facility and most of all your health.

You are to discuss the labs, any vaccinations, and length of surgery and most of all, the desire look you want for your body. After confirmation visit to these, they clinic will give a surgery date.

If you are older than 45 years you may have to be examined by the anesthetist and the primary care physician (if you are taking medication for any illness). You must provide him a list of medication names that you are using (if any).

If you live alone plan for your meals for about 10 to 20 days depending upon the type of surgery. Also, decide for your kids. You should expect to take leave from your work for 10 to 20 days. There are some other things you must follow before your surgery:

• Take a good sleep the night before surgery
• Avoid eating and drinking 12 hours before your surgery timing
• On the day of surgery wear a loose dress and remove metal objects like rings, necklace, and etc, try to leave them at your home
• Reach the clinic 1 to 2 hours before your surgery time so that you are relaxed and well prepared

Post-op care:

After the completion of the cosmetic surgical procedure, you will be taken to a recovery room. You will stay there for 2-3 hours until you are out of anesthesia. After 2-3 hours you will be taken to your hospital room, when vitally stable.

If there is a need to observe you for a night or two, the doctor may decide to admit you, or you will be discharged the same day.

Admission or discharge depends on the type of surgery and any risk factors involved in your surgical procedure. Upon your discharge doctor will advise you about the change of dressing and ay special exercise if needed.

He will also guide you about your diet and the medication that you may need to take. You should also decide for your transfer from the hospital to your home in advance.

Recovery Time:

Recovery from a cosmetic surgical procedure depends on the type of surgery. Usually bruising and swelling subsides within a few days (3-4 days). But more time is needed for complete healing and the results to be visible.

After having a tummy tuck, drains are placed which are removed after one week. After the tummy tuck, you can expect to go to work after 3 to 4 weeks. After BBL you can expect to return to work after 2 weeks of BBL procedure and sit on butts after 8 weeks.

You will be able to see results after about 6 months. Liposuction isn’t a much invasive procedure. After liposuction surgery, you can expect to return to work after 3 to 4 days. You must wear compression garments for the best results of liposuction, which you will be able to see after 3 to 6 months.
